There is an increasing use of portfolios as evaluative instruments in the last semesters at Marburg University.
Portfolios in the classical way are collections of written assignments which document a working process during a period of time. In a product-oriented use, portfolios illustrate the students’ development, achievements, and improvements.
An e-portfolio is the new form of portfolios as it includes the Internet and multimedia tools. It could be used in both university and school classes and definitely improves the media
competence of the author.
The creation of this e-portfolio was a good opportunity to have a first try in creating websites and applying all new tools that we learned in class.
Getting in touch with new tools and including them in the e-portfolio helps to get rid of the fear of being a “low-tech”-student and led to an increase in experiments with new tools.
Reflecting on them and collecting ideas for possible in-class situation will hopefully lead to an increasing use in the future foreign language teaching classes.
Especially the combination of the courses “New Media in Foreign Language Teaching” and “Media Production” led to productive and motivating results.
